ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਸ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜ ਕੇ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਰਹੇ। ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੜ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੈ।੧। ਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ! ਮੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ, ਤੇ, ਆਖ- ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼। ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਖੂਹ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰੀ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ।੨। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ- ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਬੜੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਚਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਗੁਪਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ। ਦਿਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਤ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਵਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਇਹੀ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਮੰਦ-ਕਰਮੀ ਹਾਂ।੩। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ- ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ। ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ। ਹੇ ਨਾਥ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੀ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਲੈ, ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ।੪। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ- ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਰੱਖਿਅਕ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ! ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇ, ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇ, ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਵ੍ਹਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੫। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ- ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਚਕੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਛਲੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਭੌਰ ਦਾ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਫਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਚਕਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ।੬। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ- ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੁਆਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਖਸਮ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ-ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਦੁੱਧ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ।੭। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ- ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਬੱਝੇ ਭੰਬਟ ਦੀਵੇ ਉਤੇ ਡਿੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਚੋਰ ਝਾਕਾ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਚੋਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਾਥੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆ ਦਾ ਧੰਧਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਸੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੁਆਰੀਏ ਦੀ ਜੂਆ ਖੇਡਣ ਦੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਆਦਤ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖੀਂ।੮। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਰਨ ਦਾ ਘੰਡੇਹੇੜੇ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੀਂਹ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੇਵਕ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੯। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ, ਸੁਣ ਕੇ, ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਲਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੧੦।੨।
BILAAVAL, FIFTH MEHL:
God, please release me from birth and death. I have grown weary, and collapsed at Your door. I grasp Your Feet, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. The Love of the Lord, Har, Har, is sweet to my mind. Be Merciful, and attach me to the hem of Your robe. Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. || 1 || O Merciful Master of the meek, You are my Lord and Master, O Merciful Master of the meek. I yearn for the dust of the feet of the Saints.|| 1 || Pause || The world is a pit of poison, filled with the utter darkness of ignorance and emotional attachment. Please take my hand, and save me, Dear God. Please bless me with Your Name, Lord. Without You, God, I have no place at all. Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to You. || 2 || The human body is in the grip of greed and attachment. Without meditating and vibrating upon the Lord, it is reduced to ashes. The Messenger of Death is dreadful and horrible. The recording scribes of the conscious and the unconscious, Chitr and Gupt, know all actions and karma. Day and night, they bear witness. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord. || 3 || O Lord, Destroyer of fear and egotism, be merciful, and save the sinners. My sins cannot even be counted. Without the Lord, who can hide them? I thought of Your Support, and seized it, O my Lord and Master. Please, give Nanak Your hand and save him, Lord! || 4 || The Lord, the treasure of virtue, the Lord of the world, cherishes and and sustains every heart. My mind is thirsty for Your Love, and the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. O Lord of the Universe, please fulfill my hopes. I cannot survive, even for an instant. By great good fortune, Nanak has found the Lord. || 5 || Without You, God, there is no other at all. My mind loves You, as the partridge loves the moon, as the fish loves the water, as the bee and the lotus cannot be separated. As the chakvi bird longs for the sun, so does Nanak thirst for the Lord’s feet. || 6 || As the young bride places the hopes of her life in her husband, as the greedy person looks upon the gift of wealth, as milk is joined to water, as food is to the very hungry man, and as the mother loves her son, so does Nanak constantly remember the Lord in meditation. || 7 || As the moth falls into the lamp, as the thief steals without hesitation, as the elephant is trapped by its sexual urges, as the sinner is caught in his sins, as the gambler’s addiction does not leave him, so is this mind of Nanak’s attached to the Lord. || 8 || As the deer loves the sound of the bell, and as the song-bird longs for the rain, the Lord’s humble servant lives in the Society of the Saints, lovingly meditating and vibrating upon the Lord of the Universe. My tongue chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Please bless Nanak with the gift of the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. || 9 || One who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and hears them, and writes them, receives all fruits and rewards from the Lord. He saves all his ancestors and generations, and crosses over the world-ocean. The Lord’s Feet are the boat to carry him across. Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he sings the Praises of the Lord. The Lord protects his honor. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord’s door. || 10 || 2 ||
